PilotRush Is Live: Microdra.ma and AdArena Launch a Global Search for the Next Great AI Microdrama

Microdra.ma has partnered with AdArena to launch PilotRush, a global competition for creators building the next generation of AI-native vertical drama.

We're looking for original stories, unforgettable characters and distinctive worlds that can hook an audience almost instantly - and leave them desperate to know what happens next.

The challenge is simple:

Create an original 50-80 second pilot for a vertical microdrama series.

Not an ad.

Not a trailer.

Not a beautiful collection of AI shots.

A story.

A hero. A world. A problem. A reason to keep watching.

And most importantly: a cliffhanger that makes us need Episode 2.

$5,000 in prizes - and a path beyond the competition

PilotRush includes $5,000 in total prizes across 40 winning places, including $3,500 in cash prizes and $1,500 in creative credits.

But for us, the competition is about much more than prize money.

Microdra.ma is building a global pipeline connecting emerging AI creators and original series with brands, sponsors, publishers, streaming platforms and distribution partners.

The winning creator will also be invited to develop additional Season 1 episodes with Microdra.ma through a separate paid engagement of up to $10,000, with royalties applying if the series is picked up by a sponsor, subject to a separate agreement.

What are we looking for?

We want ideas that feel like they could become actual series.

That might mean a romance unfolding inside a luxury hotel. A thriller aboard a private jet. A family secret in 16th-century Paris. A singer trying to survive her first tour. A supernatural mystery. A workplace comedy. A western. A world we haven't imagined yet.

The genre is yours.

What matters is whether you can make viewers care quickly.

Strong submissions should have:

• A distinct world - a setting and visual universe we recognize immediately.
• A compelling hero - someone we want to follow.
• A dramatic question - something the audience desperately wants answered.
• A strong hook - don't spend 30 seconds getting started.
• Conflict, desire or danger - something must be happening.
• A cliffhanger - don't give us the answer.
• A repeatable series engine - we should be able to imagine Episodes 2, 3, 20 and beyond.

And remember:

This is a story, not an ad. But brands will be watching.

How the competition works

Creators can submit up to two original pilots, each between 50 and 80 seconds, produced vertically in 9:16 format.

The imagery should be AI-made, while motion control and human voiceover are permitted. English-language pilots should not include subtitles; another language can be used when it is important to the story, with English subtitles.

Entries are judged on factors including addictiveness and microdrama storytelling, hook and retention, cliffhanger strength, originality, the distinctiveness of the world and characters, sponsor reaction, editing, pacing and soundtrack.

You keep ownership of your work

Creators retain ownership of their work.

By submitting, creators provide Microdra.ma with a non-exclusive license to showcase the submitted first episode on our website, catalog and official social channels.

We may also use selected pilots in our catalog when introducing series to potential buyers and sponsors.

If a buyer or sponsor expresses initial interest in developing a project commercially, we will enter into a separate representation agreement with the creator before any sale takes place.

Our goal is not simply to run a contest.

We want to discover series - and the creators capable of building them.
