Creator FAQ
What is Microdra.ma looking for?+
We are looking for original vertical series with strong commercial potential and creators who can actually execute them.
For most submissions, we want to see a produced Episode 1, not simply a script or teaser.
The ideal pilot immediately grabs attention, introduces the story clearly and ends with a reason to watch Episode 2.
How long should my pilot be?+
Generally around 45-90 seconds, depending on the project.
We care more about whether it works as an episode than hitting an exact number.
Can I submit only a teaser?+
You can include a teaser, but a teaser normally does not replace Episode 1.
We want to understand how your actual series works.
Do I need a treatment?+
Yes, preferably.
Along with your pilot, we want enough information to understand:
- the premise;
- main characters;
- world;
- Season 1 story arc;
- approximate episode structure;
- how the story develops after Episode 1; and
- why viewers will keep watching.
Does my pilot need to be perfect?+
No.
The pilot is partly a proof of concept.
We want to see your storytelling, visual direction, editing, character consistency and ability to execute a vertical episode.
We may ask you to improve the pilot before placing it in the catalog.
Do I need professional production experience?+
Not necessarily.
AI is changing how series are produced. We care about what you can create.
However, creators selected for production must be capable of reliably producing professional episodes on deadline.
Can writers submit without producing a pilot?+
For the standard creator/catalog submission process, our preference is currently for creators who can submit a produced pilot.
A script or treatment alone normally does not allow us to evaluate production capability.
We may occasionally consider writing-only or IP opportunities separately.
Who pays for the pilot?+
Unless a particular contest or program states otherwise, the initial pilot is created by the creator as a submission/proof of concept.
You should not spend heavily on it.
The purpose is to demonstrate the idea and your ability to execute it.
Do I get paid for submitting a pilot?+
No. Submission itself is generally unpaid.
If your project moves into commercial production, the production terms and payment will be agreed with you before the additional episodes are produced.
Who owns my pilot and my idea after I submit it?+
You do.
Submitting a project does not automatically transfer your copyright or underlying IP to Microdra.ma.
If we decide to work together commercially, rights will be addressed in a separate written agreement.
What if somebody else helped create or owns the project?+
Tell us.
If another writer, producer, studio, publisher or rights holder owns part of the project, we may require approval from all relevant owners before representing or licensing it.
Can I submit something that has already been published?+
Potentially, yes.
The important question is whether you still control the rights required for us to represent and distribute the project.
If someone else owns or controls those rights, we will need to address that before moving forward.
What happens after I submit?+
Our team reviews the pilot and supporting materials.
There are several possible outcomes:
- We pass on the project.
- We ask you to make revisions.
- We ask for additional information or materials.
- We select the pilot for possible inclusion in the Microdra.ma catalog.
- We discuss a direct production, financing, sponsorship or distribution opportunity with you.
What does it mean if my pilot is accepted into the catalog?+
It means we like the project and believe it has potential.
It does not mean it has already been sold or financed.
The purpose of the catalog is to expose strong projects to potential publishers, distributors, platforms, brands, sponsors, financiers and studios.
Does being listed guarantee that my series will be produced?+
No.
We cannot guarantee commercial success.
The catalog is a testing and distribution pipeline. Some concepts may generate immediate interest; others may take longer; some may never be commercially commissioned.
What happens if a distributor wants my series?+
That is when the commercial process begins.
We will work with you to agree the production and commercial conditions.
Depending on the deal, Microdra.ma may act as your producer, studio, agent and/or distributor.
How many episodes will I need to produce?+
Our current model generally expects creators to be capable of producing approximately:
10 episodes within 30 days after a project is commissioned, and potentially another approximately 10 episodes per month if the series continues.
The exact requirement will be agreed for each project.
Will Microdra.ma pay me to produce the series?+
Yes, where we commission you to produce the series, there will be an agreed production fee or other agreed compensation structure.
We will negotiate the applicable conditions before production begins.
Do you provide AI credits?+
For eligible projects, we may provide production credits, AI-tool credits, partner benefits or access to production resources.
The amount depends on the project, production requirements and partnerships available at that time.
When do I become eligible for credits and production funding?+
Generally after your project has passed the initial evaluation stage and there is a concrete reason to develop or produce additional episodes.
Submitting an initial pilot does not automatically qualify a creator for production credits or funding.
Do creators receive royalties?+
Potentially, yes.
Depending on the commercial structure, creators may receive:
- a production fee;
- distribution royalties or revenue participation;
- additional participation if a project performs successfully;
- participation from renewals;
- licensing participation; and/or
- participation if the IP is acquired by a studio or other buyer.
The exact structure is negotiated for each project.
Does Microdra.ma take my IP?+
Not simply because you submit it.
If a series moves into commercial production, the rights structure may include creator ownership, Microdra.ma participation, sponsor participation or other arrangements depending on who is financing and developing the project.
Those terms are negotiated before commercial production.
Will Microdra.ma co-own my series?+
Possibly, depending on the project and what Microdra.ma contributes.
For example, a project that Microdra.ma finances, develops, distributes and helps build may have a different IP structure from a completed project for which we are acting only as a distributor or agent.
We do not apply one ownership structure blindly to every project.
Why don't you publish one fixed revenue split for every creator?+
Because the deals are different.
A finished series that only needs distribution is economically different from a project where Microdra.ma finances production, provides credits, develops the concept, secures a sponsor and distributes the resulting series.
We negotiate the commercial arrangement once we understand the project, creator, buyer and financing structure.
Do I need to sign an agreement before submitting?+
No.
We do not need a full commercial agreement simply to determine whether you are capable of producing a series and whether we like the project.
If we move beyond evaluation into catalog representation, production, distribution, licensing or financing, we will provide the appropriate agreement.
Why do you need to see a produced pilot before discussing detailed commercial terms?+
Because we receive projects from many writers and creators.
Before negotiating a detailed production relationship, we first need to determine whether:
- the concept is commercially interesting;
- the creator can produce video;
- the storytelling works in vertical format; and
- the creator appears capable of producing an ongoing series.
The pilot is how we evaluate that.
What kind of creator succeeds with Microdra.ma?+
Someone who can combine storytelling with execution.
You do not need a traditional film crew or enormous budget.
You do need to demonstrate that you can turn an idea into compelling episodes and, if selected, reliably continue producing them.
What happens if a studio wants to buy my IP?+
Any IP acquisition would be negotiated separately.
Depending on the agreements in place, the creator and other participating rights holders may be entitled to proceeds or royalties from the transaction.
Can Microdra.ma change my pilot?+
We may suggest edits and improvements.
We will not simply take your pilot and commercially remake or distribute it outside the rights you have granted to us.
Once a project enters production, creative approval and production responsibilities will be established in the applicable agreement.
Can I submit more than one series?+
Yes.
Creators may submit multiple projects. Each project should have its own pilot and supporting treatment/materials.
Can I withdraw my submission?+
Before entering into a separate representation or commercial agreement, you may ask us to stop considering the project.
Once you sign a separate agreement, the withdrawal and termination rules in that agreement will apply.
Is Microdra.ma my agent once I submit?+
No.
Submission alone does not create an agency relationship.
For selected projects, Microdra.ma may later agree to act as agent, representative and/or distributor under a separate agreement.
In one sentence, how does the process work?+
Create a pilot → submit it → we evaluate it → selected projects enter our catalog/pipeline → when commercial interest develops, we agree the production and rights terms → you produce the series with agreed payment/support → we distribute and pursue additional commercial opportunities.
